Junior Senior Banquet

At my school, the Junior class advisors are in charge of planning the Junior/Senior Banquet. Somehow, even though I'm not a Junior class advisor, I was selected to be in charge of this year's event. Although it was a TON of work, y'all know that I love a good party and have a knack for throwing large events.

Our theme was Shanghai Knights (our school mascot is the Knight) and we stuck to a classy Asian feel. My planning partner and our Junior class committee folded over 400 paper cranes for decorations. Our event took place at The Reef in Long Beach, CA. Our ballroom has one wall of windows that overlook the bay and the city lights of Long Beach. It was absolutely beautiful. The food was fantastic and a good time was had by all.

The Junior Senior Banquet or JSB is a huge event with appetizers, dinner, entertainment, and dancing. Let's just say that our budget was more than I spent on my entire wedding. With such careful planning, the event went off without a hitch. It was paced beautifully and the evening flew by.

We hired "Chinese acrobats" for our entertainment and were surprised when the first guy came out in a big cape and mask. For approx. 5 minutes he just moved around the dance floor swinging his cape around. Read: PANIC. This is going to be awful. Luckily, the kids were hamming it up and had not yet passed judgement on the whole experience.

The second act was a magician who was incredibly funny and skilled. His performance was fast paced and he had a little bit of everything. He got the audience involved and truly amazed us. For his finale, he balanced on top of a board which balanced on a cylinder on a tall box. He jumped rope and even put on a pair of pants while balancing. It was great.

Even though he is incredibly busy with studying for boards, Dave took the entire evening off, drove all the way to Long Beach, and stayed to clean up afterwords. I couldn't ask for a better partner.

Class of 2010

One of the best things we did was to hire a photobooth for our event. The couple that ran the booth had all kinds of silly hats and the kids could take unlimited pictures for free. Dave and I were sure to jump in the booth before all of the kids showed up. A wonderful reminder of the evening. (www.allaccessphotobooth.com)
