7 Months

Dear Cade,

You are in such a sweet spot of baby-dom and in many ways, we wish we could freeze these days with you and enjoy you just as you are right now.  You have the sweetest spirit, smile all the time (even when you are crying), and giggle when your brother tries to make you laugh.

You started this month out with a bang when you went on your first camping trip up to Big Bear.  It was semi disastrous for you, but we blame that mostly on the cold weather and will give you another try when we go camping this summer.

This month you became ultra stable while sitting up by yourself.  It is wonderful to set you up watching Jack play and I can use that time to run around the house accomplishing small tasks.  I do realize that the next stop will be crawling and I am fully aware that this new sense of freedom will soon be replaced with you getting into anything and everything.

First Easter

At 6.5 months, we thought you were ready to start solid food.  Because you were sitting up on your own, were accurate when putting toys to your mouth, and because you were obsessed with the food we were eating, we thought certainly this was a good time to start.

Your brother, Jack, was an amazing eater.  We used the baby led weaning method which focuses on the baby feeding themselves soft pieces of food.  No purees.  Jack took to eating like a moth to a flame. Lesson #283 of parenting states that just when you think you've got it all figured out, you have another baby and shock of all shocks, they are a DIFFERENT person!!  Cade is 0% excited about food.  Here is a little play by play of his first encounter with solid foods.

You want me to do...what?

Harumph! Avocado tastes yucky.

See, Daddy, what did I tell you, it's gross, huh?

Ok, ok, I'll try it.

Wow, he went for it.  Will he like it?

Negative.

YUCK!

Enough already...put that gross thing away!!

After the initial food disaster, we gave him a few days before trying zucchini one night and then sweet potato.  Each time, he would mouth it a little bit and then gag un-controllably if even the slightest amount got into his mouth.  By the end of the month, we were offering a solid food on his tray and doing our best to convince him to take a bite or two of puree at each dinner.  So far, he still isn't interested.

Watching Jack do just about anything

Solid food
Not being able to crawl
Being bumped on the head (mostly an accident) by your brother
