Cade Isaac - 1 Year

Dear Cade,

How could it possibly have been a year since you came into our lives?
There is something powerfully nostalgic about a first birthday that brings you reeling back to a myriad of memories and emotions as you recall detail after detail of the birth story.  I remember every little detail from that day and especially the unbearable pain of a pitocin induced labor with no pain meds.  Seriously, a whole different category of crazy!  I remember when you let out your first cry and how I just thanked Jesus over and over and over and over.

Cade, your name means "round like a barrel".  Even though you are tiny, your head makes you fit your name to a T.  The alternative, and preferable, meaning for Cade is "gentle".  And Cade, you are just that.  You have such a sweet and gentle spirit.  Your middle name, Isaac, means "laughter".  You absolutely love to laugh!  Not only do you join in anytime someone is laughing but you also love to make us laugh all on your own.

Half a week before you turned one, you finally got your first tooth!  Since the day you were born (two weeks late!) you have done things on your own time table.  You are in no rush to walk on your own and are just barely getting started on those teeth.  As your parents, we have been challenged to have patience and not rush you into things you aren't ready for.

At your one year appointment you measured:
28.5 inches long (8%)
18 lb. 7 oz. (10%)
Head Circumference 46 cm (49%)

You are just a little bitty thing.  Your doctor, Dr. Soo Kim, wasn't too concerned but did urge us to get a Celiac panel blood test to see what is going on with you when you eat gluten.  You've never really gotten along with gluten since birth, but now that you are eating solid foods, we have noticed some pretty unpleasant affects when you eat it.  Unfortunately, to take the test, we have to bomb you with bread for the 3 weeks leading up to the test.  Now to decide when we choose to make all our lives miserable.

This last month, we started Bible Study Fellowship.  We go on Tuesday mornings for two hours so Mama can work with the other leaders to prepare for the following day.  On Wednesday morning, you go to your baby class.  Your stranger danger instincts are in full swing but your mellow personality usually wins the day and you do fine.

You say "Mama" and "Dada" all the time and just recently when you give the sign at the end of a meal for being all done, you also say, "Ah duh"!

Cade's Silly Face

Your relationship with Jack is really starting to blossom into a friendship.  You are getting tougher and can handle a bit more of his roughness.  But when he does too much, you give him the stink eye and a good squawk to let him know you aren't going to take it.  :)

When will you two begin playing piano duets?
We can't wait!

Speaking of piano...

You are a huge fan and gravitate to the piano as one of your favorite pastimes. These pictures are just the sweetest!

Training him to love musical theater
So far, so good!

Hhmmm....let me see...

Thanks to Trader Joe's for the chocolate gluten free cupcakes, you got to have your first taste of a sugary treat tonight after dinner.  If you enjoyed that first taste, don't worry.  We are having a big 1st birthday party in 3 days.  You'll get another chance then.

At the end of devotions every night, you attempt to blow out the candle with your nose.  Despite all your efforts so far, you've had no successes.

We love you, Cade!!
Mama and Daddy
